Preparation for “speaking”

What do you do to learn how to speak well?

If you list the points of speaking style in detail, there is no end if you think about the details such as fluency, pauses, and intonation that were mentioned in the previous item.

However, what is more important than specific techniques is not neglecting “preparation for speaking,” such as daily basic practice and warm-up exercises.

Even professional announcers always check their pronunciation and articulation before reading a manuscript.

Warm-up exercises are also important for announcers, just as athletes do careful warm-up exercises before a game or practice.

Even when I don’t have time to prepare for a live broadcast, I use the time I have to check the draft, read it over and over again, and speak it out loud to make sure there are no mistakes.

Before you practice reading, do some warm-up exercises. Also, in announcement seminars, etc., we always practice the basics before starting the lecture of the day. She will be able to read the pronunciation and accent that she thinks she is not good at by practicing.

It is important to “tell”, not to speak “like”

The basis of announcements is to convey things accurately and in an easy-to-understand manner.

Unlike reading aloud or narrating, there is no need to include the reader’s emotions or “characteristics.”

Since it is required to accurately grasp the meaning of the text to be conveyed and to read it correctly, basically it must be conveyed in the same way no matter who reads it.

Even if it’s just the headline of a newspaper article, try reading it out loud.

In the same way that baseball players practice their swings, reading is learned naturally by practicing pronunciation and vocalization.

However, I aim to be an announcer! Except for those who say, there is no need to be conscious of how to read the announcer.

Rather than reading “like an announcer,” I think you’ll get a lot out of practice if you try to think about the meaning of each word and what’s important.

However, there are many different types of newspaper articles.
Politics, economics, entertainment, sports, etc… What would happen if all these were read in the same tone?

Certainly, as I said, “You don’t need to put the reader’s emotions into it,” you don’t have to read emotionally.

But let’s compare, for example, when dealing with a serious case, such as a murder case, to when a big celebrity couple gets married.

Reading a happy topic in the same tone as reading a murder case feels very dark, doesn’t it? Conversely, when he reads the murder news in the same tone as the auspicious topic, it sounds silly.

Reading with more consideration for the feelings of the listener than one’s own is the basics of how to read, as well as for announcers.

As an aside, in news programs, politics, economics, and important events that are of high interest to the public are read first, followed by relatively bright topics such as entertainment and sports.

Watch and listen carefully to what the announcer usually says.
There are some people who read the news in an “announcer-like” way that doesn’t change much… Oh, why don’t you try watching her with an awareness of how to read it to your heart?
